Some locations are so special that they deserve a development that is special too, offering nothing less than the best in the way of design, finishing, landscaping and amenities. This is what the developers of The Edge felt when they acquired this uniquely privileged beachside location with the sweeping views across the Mediterranean Sea to Gibraltar and North Africa. In fact, from this vantage point you can follow the curve of the shoreline to the characteristic rocky outline of Gibraltar, behind which the sun sets in a spectacular display of golden and pink tones.
They enlisted a famous Madrid-based architect, Rafael de La Hoz, to give shape to a project that would go on to garner critical acclaim. Equally entranced by the setting, de La Hoz allowed himself to be inspired by the curve in the coastline here, creating elegantly sweeping lines that are also inspired by the seaside location. Nautical elements are visible in the handrails and other details throughout The Edge, as this complex of luxurious apartments and penthouses right by the beach in Estepona is called.
Luxury and style by the beach
A short distance from the marina and charming historic centre of Estepona, and not 20 minutes removed from the hotspots of Marbella and Puente Romano, The Edge enjoys peace and privacy in a frontline beach setting also within five minutes of a choice of golf courses, fish restaurants and beach clubs. It is classic Mediterranean idyll, but with a sleek contemporary touch, courtesy of Rafael de La Hoz. Arriving at the gated entrance, residents have access to private parking and storage rooms, as well as first-class amenities such as a gym, health club and spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a paddle tennis court – all set within gorgeous gardens and panoramic terraces facing the sea.
“The building is very futuristic,” says interior designer Jana Novakova of Aalto Exclusive Design, “so we wanted this to be reflected in the interior, with an additional fun and vibrant twist.” Given the natural light, views and close access to the beach, she opted for bold, aquatic blues and sun yellow to contrast with the white walls and create a fresh, summery look. “We made bespoke furniture made-to-measure for the property and combined the pieces with bespoke wall decorations to create a design ensemble made just for it.”
The result is a stylish, refined yet also fun apartment inspired by its seaside setting. The kind of home that invokes that wonderful summer feeling and imbues it with Aalto’s signature blend of elegance, comfort and functionality. “We really enjoyed the process, and working with Kronos Homes and Nvoga,” says Jana, who has captured the spirit of The Edge.
The properties for sale at The Edge range from two-bedroom apartments to expansive rooftop penthouses with spectacular views from the spacious living rooms and terraces. Like the architect, interior designers Aalto Marbella drew inspiration from the surroundings and views that embrace these stylish modern homes, to create a fresh seaside palette of white, cream and blue tones, elegantly lacquered materials complemented by natural ones, and a flowing interior distribution.
